I'm pretty positive there will be EL34 tubes in it at some point. But the 6L6 is a great tube in other amps I own, and I'm curious how it will behave in a marshall type of circuit..
The fact that everybody else automatically thinks EL34 will probably have its reasons...

Josh, I bought some UF5408 diodes for the rectifier. But they are fairly large. Problem is the UF4007 isn't available around here. Is the size of the 5408 a problem for noise?

Why would it have any effect on noise? It's the same thing, but 3A instead of 1A.

That's what I was thinking too when ordering them. But now I took a closer look and the difference in size is immense.. started to make me wonder if it would have an impact on the noise level. Thanks for clearing this out for me..

UF5408: Height: 5.3 mm, Length: 9.5 mm
UF4007: Height: 2.72 mm, Length: 5.21 mm

I mean, (not quite) double tiny is still pretty tiny. ;)

Those look the same as the ultra-fast 3A rectifiers I use in doublers - GI856. The original General Instruments diodes are no longer available, but On-Semi makes a replacement, the MR856. I've compared the recovery time of the two using a scope, and they're virtually identical. These are neither better nor worse than smaller diodes in terms of noise. All rectifier diodes need to be kept away from high gain stages and 1M volume controls.

Here's a possible stupid question...

I wired the PT from wall power to rectification. I was a fool not to check the HT voltages prior to attaching the diodes. It's all soldered and heatshrink isolated, so I don't have checkpoints for the HT voltages. I will address that anyway... but for now there is an oddity in voltage. I read 236VAC on the wallpower in the amp. But I read 275VDC after rectification. The HT would normally be 300V unrectified. Is this normal at this stage, being nothing else wired except the HT wiring? Is this voltage going up as the rest is being wired with filter caps and such?

The unfiltered output of a SS rectifier is pretty ragged. Your meter probably can't read it correctly. If you're concerned, you could clip lead in a small cap like 10uF or so and check again.

Thx! Didn't think of that option...great tip!!

Ok with a 22uf 500V cap I read 425V unloaded... thats better to start with 😃

"The delivery was not possible due to unforeseen circumstances." Does your postman have IBS or something? 🤓

I don't understand either. I was notified the postman was coming yesterday. My daughter was home all day but never saw the postman...

This is crazy. I called them and they are gonna start an investigation. That can take up to 2 weeks... this is really incredible 💀💀💀

Hopefully whomever received the package will be honest and deliver it to you quickly.

Yeah, but it needed to be paid in cash or electronically to the postman. The customs fee and taxes. Otherwise they don't hand it over. I can't imagine anyone doing that for a parcel they didn't order...

If it ain't here by the weekend I'll be forced to go turretboard ... I don't believe it will ever be found if it ain't found tomorrow.
Same postal services managed to lose a new laptop I ordered for my son last year. After weeks and weeks of telephone calls and emails I was forced to buy another one because they couldn't find it... amateurs!!!!
