Do you all have any good resources for getting an understanding of how to determine what transformers work in what situations?

Let's say I have a specific build I want to undertake, and I want to find the right transformers to power it.

AND

Let's say I have some transformers and want to find out what type of amp I could build around it.

Where could I find some primers on that?

Thanks in advance. This one is still shrouded in mystery for me.

I wonder about that too...don't think it's a rule of thumb kinda thang tho...

Transformer manufacturers are often decent about that. Mercury Magnetics is very good about answering questions. My MM rep is who helped me pick out the transformers for my 36W sets I'm using now (you can hear them in the 36W Trem TMB demo).

Besides that, you simply need to consider current and voltage requirements for a circuit. How many tubes will it have? Does the heater supply have enough current to handle all those tubes? etc. etc.

Current rating is the tricky part of used transformers,it’s okay if you know which amp they are from but how can you work out the current rating if unknown? I see a lot of “partridge” transformers on eBay which were the bee’s knee’s of transformers in the UK but they don’t have specs on them.
