A 36 watter in a Hammond chassis

Hello, I'm planning on building a 36 watt, and I was wondering if it would be too much of a stretch to fit one into a Hammond 17x10x2 chassis. From the documents in the faceplate section, it looks as though the official chassis is about 20 inches long. Considering how important the layout and dress are to a successful build will this work?

I think it could fit. Just be aware that Hammond chassis are a little on the light side when you get into something of that size.

Thanks, I hadn't even considered that the Hammond might not be strong enough. I emailed GDS and Graydon confirmed that the Hammonds are too flimsy for the 18 watt transformers, let alone the 36 watt versions.

I used a Hammond 17x10x3 for my 18 watt head. The Hammond 270EX and 125E seem perfectly happy in it. I'd be nervous about a 36 watt set, but I'd get the Hammond again for another 18. Of course, ask me again in 10 years.

If you're really careful with your amp, you can put the 36W in a flimsy chassis, but don't expect it to survive a trip on the UPS truck. For my own personal amp, I'd build it on a flimsy chassis if it was what I needed to do, but only because I am very careful with my own gear. If I was going on the road with one, I'd definitely put it in a much tougher chassis and use a road case.

I sent a couple of emails to the address on the geocities website Google turned up for Komboking, but I haven't received a response. Does anyone know if they are still making chassis?

I have used several of the komboking chassis now but sometimes he gets a bit busy. I have went to another source for raw chassis on a couple of occasions because of a short time frame. He does do good work though at a good price.
