Add a tube

which transformers have enough juice to add a tube? all of em'? hammond? heyboer? s2?
how can you tell if you don't have the ratings or specs?

If it's not a power tube, I would think all of them. Most of these trannies have ample headroom. The Heyboer has 3.25 A @ 6.3 for the filaments for 5 tubes & I think s2 is at least that.

well, i was thinking about making a new variation of the 18watt. it would have the "normal channel" then the TMB side would be a soldano SLO preamp. I had a great deal of sucess building the SLO preamp and using it with my 18watter, so i figured i would just build it in there on the TMB side. think anyone would be interested in building it??

I started with the 1/2 of the SLO crunch preamp on my 3 watter. It is REAL hard to quiet down. I switched to a modified JCM800 style and it produces more gain/overdrive than anyone will ever use.

I use the Heyboer. I added a 12AX7. One half is used for foldback reverb recovery and the other half I used as a 20db boost in front of the TMB channel. Works very well for me.

not more than i'll use..i dont even like listening to metal, but i enjoy doing the chugging and the galloping stuff for hours on end....the SLO preamp didn't have enough gain for me, so i added a gain mod to it.
i never had any problems with noise or oscillations with the SLO preamp, and i only have shielded cable from the input to V1.
but i added a stage to my jcm800 and had a hell of a time with oscillations. go figure!
