Blockhead Prototype

Greetings 18 watters! I'm new to the site, just registered today in fact, and I'm pleasantly surprised to find so many other enthusiasts here! I'm looking forward to a new world of the 18 watter including my own project once I have enough discretionary funds available, haha!

What actually brought me here was a quest for an output tranny for my newly purchased Blockhead Prototype. The OT came loose from the chassis at some point, either on the way here or from the prior owner, and the wires were all torn off the windings. I did resolder them (whew) and it works and sounds really good but I would much rather replace it.

Are the PTs and OTs that GDS sells the same as the ones used in the Blockhead 18 watters? The OTs look the same but the PT are painted black whereas the ones in my Blockhead 2x12 are plain steel.

I have emailed Graydon but so far he hasn't returned my mail. Anyone know of a phone number for GDS Amps? THANKS!!

Supposedly, Blockhead has someone build genuine Radio Spares clones like no other...but then again that is just what Heyboer is doing for Graydon. So the real question is, do Blockheads have Heyboers in them? Are there numbers or stickers on the PT or OT in your Blockhead?

~ Ross

P.S. I doubt Blockhead will tell you who builds for them...maybe it is worth emailing them. :)

Thanks for the reply...No, that's just it. No numbers anywhere, haha. Just nice shiny new steel covers on the pt and the ot has the metal frame and paper-shellac coverings. Looks just like the GDS stuff, same color leads and size and all but GDS pt is black and has numbers on them. I suspect these are all the Mercury Magnetics "classic clones" but I could be wrong. I saw them at www.mercurymagnetics.com. Thanks anyway....

Hi Guys,

Iam1aw, I replied to your email tonight.

I know nothing about the Blockhead trannys. I don't know if Heyboer makes them or not. I do know that at least the first few Germino Masonettes had our OT. They may have changed the design since then, but I doubt it.

I am still swamped here but I am now caught up on customer amps. I need to ship a couple kits and do two repairs but then I can get my new shop organized.

Just a quick note to thank Graydon and friends for hookin' me up with info and a replacement OT for this Blockhead. Quite reasonable prices too, I might add. Look forward to many more great transactions in the future! :D
