Wow, this is a neat site!

I have a 330-0-330 transformer that I would like to use in an 18watter build, and was wondering if this was a little too much. Or suggestions on how to make it usable.

thanks

it sounds a little too much. But I know there are ways of reducing that with a (or some?) Zenner diodes...

Am I right?

Yeah, 330 a little heavy, you only need 300. You might accidentally cook some stuff. Graydon Stuckey, a prominent member here, sells great trannys for a good price also.

Thanks, The PT is one of those split bobbin types and flat enough to squeeze into into a 1U rackmount chassis....hence my wanting to use it. :D

Does it have the extra winding for the Rectifier tube (5v I think), it would work if it did. You would have to use something to back it down a bit.

A few zeners strung together in series is a good way to loose some extra DC volts. Using multiple zeners in this way helps divide the power dissipation between them, as well as provide a safety factor against any single one going short-circuit at any time.

He's right. You might also want to fuse your B+ just to be on the safe side. A good practice even if you're not using Zeners.
