Some new builder questions...

Hello, my name is Ryan Hansard and i recently (a few weeks ago) came across amp kits and have become addicted to researching and reading all i can about them. I have been in the market for a new amp for a while now, and have looked at vox AC-30's and fender deluxes, but seeing as how i already own a fender hotrod deville, I thought it would be an interesting project to build an amp, especially one different than the deville. I am looking for something more portable than the 410, like a 112, but also want versatility, with a lot of clean headroom. Is the 36watt the way to go or are there ways to modify the 18watt to give it as much headroom? Also, does the 36watt weigh significantly different than the 18watt? Any suggestions or comments as to which kit would be good for me to build would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ryan.

By your description, I'd suggest building either a 36 watt into 1x12 or an 18 watt into 2x12s. Or build a 36 watt head version with the half power switch (Ceriatone has a kit with one) and a separate 1x12 or 2x12 box. That way you can always add more speakers for more volume.

Can you get the 36watt with the half power switch in a combo? I'm looking to build a combo so it is portable because i would be taking it to practices and gigs 3 to 5 times a week.
