Ok, I just crancked this bastard all the way up to 3 ... or perhaprs 4, I am not sure right now as I am in shock!!!!

My marshall 100W does not even come close to this loud... Jesus!

I put a Hellatone 60 16Ohm in my marshall 1x12 closed back cabinet and patched the Ceriatone/plexi 36 w.... started at 0 went up to 1 .... and thought... well .. not much gain.... then I went to 3 ... Hello AC/DC ... probably better... I COULD NOT get volume like this from the SS marshall ... ever... even.

Well, now I have to build a 9 watt version of this so I can play in populated area's. JESUS.....

I build this same circuit into 18 watters too..works very well.

Well i leave out the feedback switch..since most don't use it,they want the more raw sound.

how does the feedback switch affect the tone in the 36W?

I'm thinking of leaving out the feedback altogether.

Is Nik using the tone stack lift/boost on his amps?

The Neg feedback switch louder and brighter ( gritty). I personaly don't like it. Seems to boost mids and highs.

There is no tone stack lift/boost on the Nik version. But I am thinking of using the Neg feedback switch for this purpose.

This amp is great. I find that the MV goes up gradualy to 4, then it satys pretty much the same all the way to 6-7... didn't go higher than that... Is that usualy how it behaves??

I guess the el84's are in a push pull config and using just one would not work... Or would it? I am looking at the ax84 high octain and it has but 1 El34... so....

I will never build an amp louder than this one... no reason too....

If you have a .1uf cap across the 1.5k remove it,and it will take out the brighter sound,also feedback in tames the gain of the amp some..or is for more cleaner sound... With the feedback out..it should be thicker sounding,much more aggressive..

Hmmm, maybe its time to have the 100 watt marshall looked at. Mine dimed literally thumps you on the chest...

Think he mentiones SS marshall...36 watts is loud..no doubt...so is 18 and 10...A true 100watt tube amp should theoretically be only twice as loud as a 10watt amp. Course it's a different kind of loud. A 100watt marshall..like a tube 4-holer or even a '76 100watter master will knock a 36 on it's arse kinda like a train would. And a 50watt good old tube marshall is probably not that much LOUDER than the 36 it's different too...it just kinda wants to knock things over. The 36 can do it too maybe moreso that a 50w marshall but with bottom end. The 50 wants to PUNCH things down.
I like the nfb switch. Like everyone else, I dont use it "in" but I think I might one day like say if it's a kinda smallish room, I want to keep it in 18w mode (or especially if it's an 18watter), and need to trade a touch of volume for a tad more clean snap and overall tighter, held together tone, then I'd probably use it. It probably is less "necessary" in the 36er though cause it's stout enough to dial in a pretty tight clean tone if you want it. No doubt it would come in handy and adds versatility if you wanna do some serious twanging. I havent tried it but with it in the in position you could probably get some pretty convincing twin tones cause it's kinda close already (I could get seriously injured for saying those same words at other forums lmao).
Yeah...no tonestack bypass pull pot thing on Niks ones. Wonder why. Wish I would have known about that when I got mine built.
Sure glad you're lovin it chub. You gotta try a 50w marshall now...like even a 1987X in a store. It's kinda like...you get used to a plexi, or a RI plexi or an early or even later metalface and THEN you try Richies 18 or 36 and it's kinda the same as listening to a stereo that sounds incredibly great and THEN kicking in the 36 band EQ . Even with the eq IN, you can still dial in the "normal" sound but you all of a sudden have access to all this extra shimmer and bottom end and clarity and transparency (but not in a hi-fi sence) that you just dont have with a plexi (now blasphemy like that would literally get me flamed to the stake over "you know where"). The only thing you WONT get out of the 36 is that cuncussive mid wack about the head and body. Like the marshall will punch you barefisted and the 36 uses 8oz gloves. Sure enough will KO you but in a different way.

Plexi, doe it hurt to add there a variable NFB pot of 5 K Lin. instead of the 1k5?
Not for sounding but more or less headroom? Or change wa 50K pot for the 47K, but then you've got the prob. of overkill.

Suggestion..............

it would be easy to use the switch hole.. to just put a presence control..that has a switch on the pot. So you could use a variable presence,or still be able to lift it or bypass it if you wanted to with the switch on the back of the pot. You can use different values of feedback resistor to get the amp to be more clean feedback..or less..
