36 clips

Are any of the clips in Zsounds 36 watters. Not very many of the clips are labled.

listening to those really has me on the fence about which to build ... TMB or TREX ...

Is that TREX clip your 18W TREX? I presume it'd have a lot more bottom end with a 36W output section... Dang. They both sound very good. Actually reminds me a lot of my Princeton Reverb vs. my GDS 18W.

I'm going to start another topic on this point maybe Richie will chime in. But kudos for wailing in some killer clips. I don't know which sounds better, the amp or the chops!!

The 36 watter (t-rex) was Richie's original 36...this originally had a trainwreck-type circuit built into it, hence the name, but the richamp clips are after he replaced it with more of a plexi-type of circuit, which is what the current layout is. The 18 watt tmb and current 36 layout are pretty similar aside from the wattage. The 36 has a few more bells and whistles (the tone stack lift, for example) but this can be implemented in a standard 18 tmb. IIRC, Rock-On's amp in the gallery is an 18 TMB but follows alot of the 36 layout.

well I'm building a 36W ... so that TREX clip was with a 36W, not 18W like the TREX schemo that's floating around?

You have me confused now. The schematic for the 36 MarkH did was done after Richie and I re-drew the 36 watt layout (the current one in the downloads area)...it's basically a 36 watt TMB with tone circuit of the 18watters trem channel being used in the 36's normal channel....Richie originally had a trainwreck-type circuit there so it was originally called a t-rex (trainwreck). The clips are of the same amp, but the wreck circuit was replaced with what's in the current layout....that's what you're hearing.

In the clips:
"Richamp" is the 36 watter.
"Richie's" is an 18.

ok sorry to be confusing ...

the "Trex" amp schematic at mark huss's web site is an 18W amp, and it has an 18W-TMB type tone stack but has a Trainwreck-type circuit topology and clipping stage in the TMB channel. I guessed that the "TREX" clips may have been of an amp built like this schematic, but it seems you are suggesting that those clips are a 36W amp maybe with the "Trex" preamp (I'd say sort of a confluence of BF Fender, Marshall and trainwreck design ideas), or maybe a more typical wreck-type preamp.

Anyway no matter. All of those clips sound great, and despite rather significant differences in amp designs, they clearly are all in the same family. I think I am going to stick with a regular TMB for my build to begin with but may experiment with the wreck-inspired ideas at a later date. They all sound very good. So many amps, so little time!

No, what I'm saying is the richamp clips are the 36 watt layout in the downloads section....no trainwreck preamp in it. Like you said, all of these amps sound great. Pick one and play.

Nitroliq is correct.. the first 36 was built in a fasion of a wreck circuit and also had an 18 channel. I was experimenting at the time,and took the wreck channel out,and put in a sort of TMB plexi type channel. So the Trex nameplate was still on the amp. Mark H does have a tweaked version of the wreck type layout too If you want an amp with lots of gain..the Trex would be the one.. The 26 watter also has a good bit of gain.
Both great amps..just different.

no I don't think I need that much gain from this particular amp.

I have a Princeton Reverb with trainwreck-inspired preamp and it cooks for sure. I think I'll stick with the TMB for this next amp but may experiment with some trainwreck ideas in it if it doesn't absolutely knock me out right off.

I think I'm an addict. I already have three more amps on the drawing board and I haven't finished this one yet.

Experts - please help me out here. I just bought a 36 watter from someone who says they used schematics from here. Is it possible I'm getting a wreck amp and not a Marshall design?

its more likely its just the 36 watt TMB..although a few posts were made of the more wreck type circuit..and Mark Huss has that on his site that has some tweaks he did...
I'd have to look back,but if you look [search] for the 'red house' thread,Mark has a sound file using that amp..

ah found it.. says he used the Trex for the lead middle part..and lite was for the other gutar parts.
