EZ81 EL84 spacing

Post by DaveW »

How close can I space an EL84 from the EZ81. A change of plan forces me to squeeze another pre amp tube in so I thought I would drill a new hole for one of the EL84s and move the rest across.

Thanks for reading,

Dave

What could happen if you place the tubes too close to each other ?

Those spiral wire tube shields look interesting, I've never seen anything like them.

Heat. Many datasheets list the minimum distance between tubes. Interestingly, one of our members (1950?) did some experiments, blasting a running amp with a propane burner to see how the tone was affected - after about 10 minutes, the EL84's started redplating!

thanks for the information about the heat ;)
but of course if you place the tubes in a closed area where almost no cool air ventilates the tubes u will reach high temperatures after a while too i fear.
