Well, I can only speak for me. While it seems like a lot, i'd be interested in one. Im sure it can be done cheaper using different materials, but im into buying quality, and never having to worry about needing another. Just my opinion.

Given what I know about custom foundry work, $250 seems reasonable. I've looked into a couple of items involving foundry work, and it scared me off. I've actually started building a "backyard" foundry using a large propane cylinder as a shell, to be lined with refractory cement, for sand-casting aluminum (and possibly cast iron.)
I would think that anyone who sells assembled amps should be very interested in one of these. You want quality, you have to pay for it. I can't see that it would EVER drop an amp, something I can't say about some of the wooden ones I've seen.
Is that your own design? VERY nice. I'm working on machining one out of 3/8" aluminum plate. Similar, less the handwheel and the spacing rods at the bottom.
